Wupatki Ruins

Grand Canyon

[button text=”Grand Canyon” url=”http://www.nps.gov/grca/photosmultimedia/index.htm” newWindow=”true” /]  is 90 minutes from our house and is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.  Our proximity to the Grand Canyon allows you to make a day trip or if you’re not up for the drive you can jump aboard the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, Arizona and enjoy the high desert on your way to the Grand Canyon.  Once you’re at the South Rim you can stroll the paths for that perfect picture or if you’re adventurous you can hike down the Bright Angel trail. Although the temperatures on the South Rim are similar to those in Flagstaff, as you hike down into the canyon the temperatures quickly rise.  The temperatures at the bottom of the canyon in the summer can be as warm as Phoenix, around 30f warmer.

Grand Canyon Railway

[button text=”Grand Canyon Railwayl” url=”http://www.thetrain.com” newWindow=”true” /] is a truly unique way to see Northern Arizona as you travel to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.  The trip  takes just over 2 hours and makes for an excellent day trip. During the winter months the Grand Canyon Railway features a Polar Express adventure.  The Polar Express reservations fill up fast so early booking is recommended.

The Grand Canyon Deer Farm

The Grand Canyon Deer Farm is a relatively cheap activity the whole family will enjoy. Check their website for special offers.

Arizona Snowbowl

[button text=”Arizona Snowbowl” url=”http://www.arizonasnowbowl.com” newWindow=”true” /] is the closest ski resort to Flagstaff.  The resort is 25 miles from the house and offers skiing and snowboarding during the winter and lift rides to the top of the resort during the remaining months.

Meteor Crater

Meteor Crater is the breath-taking result of a collision between a piece of an asteroid traveling at 26,000 miles per hour and planet Earth approximately 50,000 years ago.

Bearizona

Kaibab Lake

Kaibab Lake is 15 minutes east on I-40 and offers fishing, canoeing, hiking, and biking near by.  The lake is restricted to small motors so it is a quite place to have a picnic or let the kids catch tad poles.
